Derecho by Sidewinder 2020
Hiphop artist "Sidewinder" releases "Derecho", an 11 track album, described by the artist as a "Collection of progressive mood altering tracks". Released on 4/20/21 ;)
The album is inspired by a wide variety of musical genres and styles, adding a huge amount of creativity and originality to Sidewinder's portfolio.
The opening track is titled "Children Fear Not"
As an introduction track, this song is the perfect choice, it's edgy, it's eerie, and it's intriguing! There's so many unique elements involved, it's like a concoction of upbeat hits and spacey, melodic tones making their way across the soundscapes universe.
The 2nd track is titled "Climbing"
Musically, this track holds a similar nature to the previous track, yet it's even more action packed, experimental, and involving. You're drawn in with the alien-like sounds, as it's truly unlike anything you've ever listened to before. It's almost healing, in a way, or refreshing.
"Traveling" enters with a funky cresendo
It's cinematic and radiant, the production is first class, it truly fulfills each human sense with it's suspenseful, clinging vibe, that keeps you engaged throughout. It twists and unfolds multiple times, changing your original expectations massively, and forcing you to listen to the entire track, as you're urging to hear what comes next.
It leads into "Winter's Oasis"
It's the perfect type of song that you listen to in the city at night, it's an urban, yet almost nostalgic record. I guess another way to put this is that it's a whole story, it's not just a song.
The music lets thoughts fill your mind, it's open to personal interpretation, and is fully immersive.
The 5th track is titled "Supercharged Superposition"
I wouldn't be surprised to hear this in a movie in the years coming, a sci-fi, space themed film, it's fits the criteria perfectly! It's only 2 minutes long, but it fulfills you completely, and is an integral part of the album as a whole.
"Two Faced Reality"
The amount of uniqueness the artist can conjure is so evident in this groovy song, you can tell that so much time has been put into planning the structure, yet you still feel like it's been composed as you go along, it feels special, and holds that aforementioend experimental feel.
It leads seamlessly into the 7th track, titled "Orange Is The New Black"
The atmosphere created by this track seems so retro, but at the same time, you know that it's new and a style of progressive music, yet to make it mainstream, or maybe not supposed to, maybe it's made for only the lucky few to listen to and enjoy. The occasional minor keys in the backing instrumentation ensure the track keeps that "edge" the rest of the album has.
8 - "Warning! Red Pill"
It's almost like something out of geometry dash, it has a techno/disco vibe taking centre stage, but it also has real percussion working in juxtaposition with the superb synths to create a floaty, disorientating (in the best ways) soundscape.
Coming towards the end of the album "The Clock" is introduced.
It flows like a wave, no breaks or stops, it's just easy listening, chilled, smooth music, and the introduction of new elements and instruments is clinical. The bouncy percussion ensures the listener never turns their back to the track.
The 2nd to last track is titled "Untied"
The tranquil piano, and inspirations of world music, and traditional, brings a whole new range of depth to the mix. The more laidback, slowpaced nature creates a perfect vibe fit for the finale track. It changes towards the end, with a twinkly, more catchy style, before a fast, dramatic end.
The finale track is titled "Loves Perspective"
It's only 1 minute long, however, it's such an upbeat, trap inspired beat, it couldn't be any better at leaving you urging to hear more from Sidewinder after it ends. Even though it has no vocal performance, the amount of overwhelming instrumentation is truly baffling and aweinspiring!
