Kofi the Kyd - "EUPHORIA, BEYOND"

Michael kofi Kportufe, better known by his stage name KOFI THE KYD, is an underground rapper and singer hailing from the south side of Chicago. His iconic versatility converts himself outside of the normal rap style displayed by a lot of rap artists on streaming platforms like TikTok and SoundCloud.

Today we'll be reviewing Kofi The Kyd's 15 track album "EUPHORIA, BEYOND" - Which has a perfect run time of 50 min 48 seconds.

This unique, diverse album seems to take inspiration from an incredibly wide variety of genres and musical styles... from Trap, Hip-Hop, Rap, Pop, Dance, Rnb, and LoFi. It begins with the track "Prelude" which takes you on a true, experimental musical journey, the opening has a calming tranquil vibe, and as the track progresses, it becomes even more powerful and headbopping.

The 2nd track has a slower vibe to it, and seems to take inspiration from original hiphop, with rhyme after rhyme lyricism and the complex, elemental instrumentation ensures the listener is involved and engaged constantly throughout. It juxtaposes and contrasts to the next track on this unique everchanging album.

"Mango express" is incredibly catchy, and forces the listener to sway along to it's aweinspiring infectious sound.  It doesn't dynamically change much, yet it's incredibly immersing from the get-go.
It may only be just over 2 minutes long, yet it plays an integral part of the album. This summer vibe nature is also showcased in "STELLAR" and also "Tones by three"

A more laid back, chilled vibe is emitted by "Villains", which is fitting for a track that begins the lead towards the end of the Album. The melodic vocals and bouncy percussion ensures it bursts with originality, uniqueness and showcases Kofi the Kyd's creativity with the music.

One of my personal favourites on this track has to be "Sugar baby". The production of most releases nowadays is somewhat respectable, but to get a track where every element has been worked on tremendously, and where they each work together harmoniously to create the final piece is rare. Most songs that are 5 minutes long tend to lose their interesting aspects after a while, however this couldn't be any further from the case for sure. It holds a modern, RnB vibe, and seems to take inspiration from the "American Teen" album by Khalid. It follows on wonderfully to "Patience", "Stand by", and "Shamrock which all have a similar, one of a kind nature, but the cinematic backbeat also upholds lo-fi vibe in some parts.

The vocal performance in the aforementioned rnb inspired tracks is absolutely incredible, and runs smoothly. It doesn't fail to impress at all. The american accent and poetry-like wordplay works so well together, and it's commercial, meaning it's open to a very wide audience. Coming towards the end of this album "Love lines" sets the scene for a melancholic exit, it's relatively simplistic, yet this conjures up an easy listening, chilled track that's perfect for a mild summer's night drive with the windows open.

It follows on with a cresending intro into more lo-fi inspired tracks titled "Indecisive" and "Intuition"  - The soundscapes and musical aspects are incredible, however the true center stage taker is the vocal performance and production of the tracks. From the get-go, the seamless, effortless and nostalgic vocals keep you involved and engaged in this one of a kind listening experience. The genius rhythmic lyrics also tell a meaningful narrative.

The 2nd to last track is titled "19! " The fast paced mood this song emits is so powerful, and never gives any moments of downtime, ensuring the bond between fan and artist never stops growing. The instrumentation is fronted by a strong groove that builds and drops throughout, leaving you on the edge of your seat, tapping your feet, and waiting for the next beat.

The finale is titled "Voided" nostalgic rnb with a modern twist, just amazing! It sells a sense of grandeur with stylized electronic insttumentation and rhythmic percussion flourishing effortlessly. It's refreshing to hear creative music like this in a world drowned out with modern pop and tiktok songs. It  has an intricate, experimental feel, that's somewhat soft, whilst maintaining a lot of life and power within the meaningful track alone.
