Introducing Sebastian Azul (Review)
Today, we'll be reviewing 10 meaningful tracks from the incredible up and coming Angolan artist and producer, - Sebastian Azul
The first track, titled "Desist" (Remix)
is a seamless, smooth track, that seems to take inspiration from a wide variety of different musical styles and genres, from afrobeat to hip-hop. All the many different inspirations work together in a unique way to conjure up an upbeat, groovy, and truly electric song!
Towards the end of the track, it unfolds with energy before leaving you with a lull in the intensity after 3 and half minutes of action packed madness!
The 2nd track is titled "Girl I Like You"
this upbeat track is truly unlike anything you will have ever heard before! It constantly twists and evolves in ways you will not have originally expected, ensuring that the listener is engaged in the song for the entire runtime. It's a great summer-vibes track, you can imagine hearing this blasting on the radio in a bar on the beach.
The next song is called "Family Values" (Remix)
The powerful, ranging vocals that radiate throughout the soundscape are most definitely the highlight in this purposeful track. The amount of time that must have been taken to ensure the structure is so well thought out. It has experimental element, yet it also feels set in stone, and well established at the same time.
The 4th track is titled "Love Me, Love Me Not"
The funky bassline and cinematic production feel polished and clinical, and in the track, there's no unneeded moments of downtime, ensuring the listener will never lose interest. The wide variety of genres that Sebastian takes inspiration from showcases his ability to be creative, whilst also bringing original aspects to the table. All his music is different, there's never two of the same things.
Next is "Tic" w/ Dominic Azul
The backing instrumentation takes inspo from not only, r&b, but even traditional and world music with certain elements such as woodwind instrumentation giving it that extra "push" needed to fulfill it completely. The mix of the 2 people and the story like narrative is engaging and immersive. It forces you to sway along to its highly infectious sound.
After "Tic", comes "The Year of Awareness"
The music is great, but the message is even greater, and more important. Aiming to raise awareness for ADHD and Tourette's syndrome. The message of being brave, and being a hero, or a warrior, makes it great for people, especially kids with ADHD or Tourette's syndrome to listen to, making them feel empowered and included. Sebastian is making the world a better place with his pictorial songs.
The 7th track is titled "If I Knew Then... What I Know Now"
This track, in a similar fashion to Tic and The Year of Awareness, has a special meaning behind it. Talking about how all people are unique. It's a song for everyone, and ensures the people who listen to this track do not feel alone or secluded. The tranquil piano based music just further adds to the meaning and emotion of the song.
Next is "Terrible"
At nearly 5 minutes long, you'd expect the song to lose it's interesting aspects eventually, however this couldn't be any further from the truth! As the song progresses, the melody could be arguably seen as somewhat repetitive, however I think it also adds to the suspense and engageness.
The 2nd to last track is titled "I'm the Girl"
This is another track that highights, ADHD, OCD, and other physical, or mental disorders or neurological conditions. It's a track that's focused on making people feel loved and accepted no matter what they may have or what they may be experiencing in life. This love-driven nature shows the artist's motive is purposeful, consequential and relevant.
The final track is titled "Without You I Can't Breathe" ft. Aliz Smith
The bluesy/jazz inspired complex guitar introduction immediately transports you to a downtown New York bar, with it's soft, cinematic feel, before it cresends dramatically, and opens up and bursts massively, immediately grabbing your attention. The structure is almost like a rollercoaster, it goes from action packed with fast paced percussion, to simplistic acoustic guitar within seconds. It's refreshing to hear original music like this, especially in a world drowned out with pop and tiktok songs.
