Mimi Novic, David Courtney - Dream House: The Journey

Author and Narrator Mimi Novic, and musician David Courtney have come together to conjure up a 6 track album, titled "Dream House: The Journey"

Beginning with a tranquil introduction, this unique album begins to intrigue the listener massively, from the very moment it enters, with the soft, glistening backing music alongside Mimi's calming narration. It brings you on a story, a cinematic rollercoaster, on a truly immersive experience.

The production of each track genuinely feels first-class.. each element radiates from one side to another, truly drawing you in and adding a whole new range of depth to the soundscape, it's a refreshing, clinical feeling, to hear music like this in a world drowned out with modern pop.

The experience is one-of-a-kind, Mimi's voice is unlike any you've heard before, the way she expresses emotion and moods with the tone of her whispery voice is aweinspiring, and is actually impressive and showcases a rare talent.

A good narrator has a voice that is distinctive, yet also relatable, so the listener can embrace in the story, and feel comfortable, or on edge, depending on the way the narrator wants them to feel. A good narrator ensures the listener feels like you could be stood there with them at the time. Mimi does all of this perfectly.

The music takes inspiration from a wide range of genres and musical styles, for example, in the track "Forest of Fear", elements from synth-wave, and shoegaze are present, and in the track "Valley of Voices" - a more 'action packed' approach is taken, with bluesy electric guitar occasionally taking the spotlight amongst a piano based backing, especially towards the cresending end.

The finale track "Call of the Soul" is by far my favourite track, it changes multiple times throughout, the music flows with the narration, like a wave, changing, as the ground beneath breaks it. It's the most immersive and pictorial. It's spacious, and eerie at times, but it also makes you feel warm and cozy. It's a strange sensation, be sure to check it out for yourself below!
