Australian Music Producer Griegz Making Mental Health a Topic of Discussion
Amidst the rising numbers of mental health conditions in the world, Australian music producer, Griegz releases a new single "My Own Enemy." The song is written from the perspective of someone who is struggling with their mental health and the thoughts going through their mind. Similar to a previous single that talks about fighting battles alongside friends to overcome mental health challenges, this follows suit as the song references the feelings and emotions that a lot of us have felt before. In particular the feeling of being lonely while surrounded by people, or wondering if it’s worth living without hope for tomorrow.
After losing loved ones to depression and having suffered from the condition himself, Griegz states that he wants to create awareness for mental health through his music. Being a topic not often discussed as much as physical illness, it often leads to people suffering in silence or feeling like there's no way out. He hopes that more discussion on the topic will help decrease the stigma surrounding mental health conditions and encourage those dealing with them to know that they’re not alone, while also educating people who haven’t experienced such conditions of what it’s like for people who have.
Griegz says the release comes at an important time as there are many people suffering as a result of the current pandemic and recent events happing in the world. With many people having their own private battles with mental health issues every day, it is essential that we start to have open conversations about how we’re all doing mentally.
The collaboration with Canadian rapper Nyu Kyung was a great experience, with the rap vocals being the highlight of the song, which clearly outlines the mindset of a person suffering from depression and suicidal thoughts. Featured artist ARia is a rising talent from the UK and her vocals add the emotional touch during the chorus.
“My Own Enemy” is now available to stream on all major platforms.
