PulsR - A Memory (EP)
Cologne based artist "PulsR" releases a new 5 track EP - "A Memory".
"What are memories?
This 5 track EP deals with the darker and scarier side of the human ability to remember.
It's about the comfort, memories provide, but also about the self deception coming with them.
There's fear, captivity, excess, regret, the question of free will and everything else you want to hear in it.
The variety of genres reaches from Industrial/Synthwave sounds to Dark Techno and even some cineastic/Ambient moments."
1. - "Chronophobia" - I'd describe this 4 minute song as an excellent display of genre fluidity. The song employs a wide, impressive array of instrumental styles that work together to create a sort of "dream sequence" quality. The atmosphere of the introduction track hits you like a Metal brick and cements the foundations of what's to come.
2. - "Erase the Night" - Dynamically, the track stays rather similar throughout, It doesn't build too much instrumentally, until the cresending end. However, this cleverly creates a haunting, dystopian, alternative atmosphere, that brings originality and free spirits to the table. The intriguing song has an airy, almost alien, cinematic texture that bounces from ear to ear, drawing the listener in and leaving them eager, on the edge of their seats. The catchy beat is fast tempo, and work well with the soft, ambient trance vibe of the instrumentation. You'll find yourself getting into it without realising.
3. - "No Way Back" - Beginning with a building soundscape, it grabs your attention immediately, for you to listen to the variety of instruments and styles being introduced as the song progresses. Around half way through, electronic synth sounds are introduced, that lead the track forward, taking center stage, until the dramatic end...
4. - "Memory Alteration" - In a similar fashion to the previous track, it builds up throughout, but this time in a whole new haunting fashion. The track opens with hauntingly ambient grungy sound which immediately conjures up images of a dark and dangerous subterranean space deep within the listeners mind. Purposefully repetitive, the listener will find themselves transformed into a trance like state, further enhancing their ability to interpret the sounds, which are open to the individual listeners interpretation.
5. - The finale "Late Insight" - There isn’t a strict structure within the track, but the interchanging sections are differentiated by changes in its spacey tones and thickened textures that move the cosmic track perfectly in four-dimensional directions. The flow of the music manifests itself incredibly well, creeping up on itself to contribute another pillar of robust melody. It's definitely the most action packed tracks of the EP.
