Matthew Smith - Definitely Just You

Matthew Smith is a Texan singer/songwriter who is currently living in beautiful Jeju Island, South Korea (The Hawaii of Korea!)

He plays bass for the Swansongs, (a local Jeju Island band) but this is his debut album!

The beautiful album is titled "Definitely Just You"

This album takes a pleasant indie-acoustic feel. There is something very familiar yet undoubtedly fresh when listening to "Definitely Just You"

The 20 minute album begins with the tranquil track "Warm Me Up"

The perfect introduction track, featuring complex guitar patterns and key changes, that aren't commonly found, making this exceptionally unique. The vocals are calming and tranquil, the perfect setting for the love driven lyrics.

Next is "Are - You - Awake?" Beginning with calming string instrumentation, it is full of depth and meaning.
At certain sections the song features high pitched backing vocals to accompany the main vocals, this shows that Matthew is willing to experiment with different music styles.

The third track is "The Anticipation"

This song is introduced with radiant urban feel noise, that is eventually overlapped by the introduction of instrumentation.

Calming, layered, stunning harmonic vocals really set the scene. Feeling like something straight out of the heavens. It carries this same feel throughout, eventually leading into the contrasting upbeat track "Song For a Friend" (I know how you feel)

The melodic styles increasingly become ambient and reverbful.

The song feels as if it reaches out to the listener and builds a connection with fans and listeners of Matthew Smith.

The next Italian style song is "(Un minute di) Paradiso)"

It for sure makes you feel like you're in paradise!
The short 1 minute interlude separates the album to the next section of this album.

"In the Heat of the Night" is an ambient electronic track, featuring a wide variety of synths and electronic elements.

This further upholds my earlier statement that Matthew Smith is open to experiment with his music.

"Rivercity Bound" is an instrumental game changer. (Pun intended.)

It feels like original retro video game music, with the upbeat backing fuzzy drums and game inspired sounds.

Coming towards the end of the album we have "Polygraph" which is an action packed, infectious, intriguing track.

The wide variety of sounds radiates around, immersing you into a world of new possibilities and thought. Increasing your energy levels for the finale track - "Kit Kat's theme"

This acoustic track is a beautiful ending to the album, bringing the feel back to the beginning of the album.

The fuzzy vocals and humourous backing sounds leave the album on a high note, leaving the listener urgent to hear more of Matthew Smith's Rhythmic music.

Matt's has said that he is currently working on a 2nd album so be sure to keep your eyes (and ears!) peeled!!

Take a listen to this wonderful, and powerful album here
